We've been asked this question so many times before, 'what a great gift idea?' Buying a gift for Tim is notoriously difficult so I hear you loud and clear. Apart from a DIY calendar 😉 or t-shirt, we've put together some of our trusty tools that we go back to time and time again.
When it comes to presents we are rather strict with how we spend our money, probably due to the way we were brought up. One year I even ended up giving the girls lots of 'presents' but not a single one could be classed as a 'toy'. Don't get me wrong they had lots of lovely things to do, read, wear but I did take them specifically to a toy shop to spend their Christmas money as I felt a bit bad.
Needless to say our gifts always have to serve a FUNCTION, be it exercise, getting outdoors, learning, feeding or clothing us. I will NOT buy 'tat' (unless it's second hand tat), we buy lots on sites like Vinted and we promise ourselves we will never go into debt.
We hope you enjoy our gift list blog but felt it our responsibility to be good 'influencers', with some form of morals. 👍😉
PS fully disclosure - we earn a small amount each time you click on these links and buy ANYTHING (doesn't have to be the product we have suggested)
There are many tool belts around and to be honest they probably all do the same, this one has a hammer handle which Tim uses a lot. We did buy one for Jo as well but it wouldnt fit around her and stay up. 😂 Its stood the test of time so far as we bought it many years ago and it is showing no signs of wear. That said, I'm sure many of the cheaper ones do the same job!
A small but mighty gift our opinion. For every DIYer who uses his ear as a pencil holder or constantly buys a pack of pencils as he/she cant find one and with the handy sharper tool on the side you can guarantee it will always be easy to get that sharp line.
It also has a handy clip so it can clip onto your tool belt like Tim is kindly demonstrating in the photo.
I don't think theres been a video recently where Tim hasn't been using this speed square. NOTE - make sure you order metric as theres a lot of imperial speed squares about. I think its slightly cheaper in Screwfix as I write this so as always shop around but a great gift as its so useful for many projects involving wood.
Jo bought Tim for Christmas last year, it was a LOT of money and we normally keep to a much more modest budget but we did our research and Tim wanted one that would last and be good to charge batteries on. It's been used daily ever since and normally blares out FIX IT RADIO for us to work to. There are cheaper models which all have different pros and cons so check the whole range out if you are thinking of investing.
Our final gift idea is one of our cosy hats, available in green DIY FARM style with a bobble or black with our IYCDIY logo. Obviously theres the mug, t-shirts, hoody's, aprons and calendars too but we thought we'd highlight the warm hat this time.
Thats it for now folks, let us know any other great gift ideas below and we will update this next year.
Before we wish you a merry Christmas i guess our final gift idea is to DO IT YOURSELF and make a gift, be it out o f wood, a photo or something sewn, the personal touch is always a winner here.
Until next time,
T&J
